2023 Viewfinder Suscol Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Our Founder, Jack Cakebread, viewed life through dual lenses – one of wine, the other of photography. Continuing that legacy of perspective and craft, Niki Williams brought her own vision to the 2023 vintage, creating this Cabernet Sauvignon from our family’s Suscol Mountain vineyard, where rugged terrain gives rise to bold tannins and intensely concentrated fruit.

Shared stories, unexpected discoveries, and evenings that take on a life of their own. It’s a bottle that invites you to slow down, look a little closer, and enjoy where the moment leads.

Perched at the highest elevation within our Suscol Ranches property, the Suscol Mountain vineyard is the final site harvested each season, thanks to its cooler, wind-swept microclimate. The persistent breezes and rugged terrain challenge the vines, resulting in small, intensely flavored berries and naturally low yields. This struggle fosters a Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable structure and finesse, with vibrant acidity preserved by the site’s altitude and late ripening.
The growing season for the Suscol Mountain vineyard featured a classic Napa Valley climate: a cool, wet winter followed by a warm, dry summer. Summer temperatures offered ideal ripening conditions, while cooler nights preserved acidity and balance. These conditions contributed to a well-paced growing cycle. The long, steady season allowed Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen gradually, developing refined tannins, deep color, and layered aromatics. The result is a wine that reflects the vineyard’s signature intensity, structure, and elegance.
