A classic Napa Cabernet in every sense, the 2019 Vine Hill Ranch opens with aromas of cocoa, vanilla, and baking spice that gives way to notes of graphite and stony minerality before ripe blackberry, boysenberry, and cassis notes emerge. On the palate, the wine is cashmere smooth and displays a balance of ripe fruit and freshly turned earth notes. Over time, hints of violet, black raspberry, and dark chocolate arise. Mouth coating and rich, the long finish is opulent and dense, driven by fine grained, luxurious tannins.

Grapes for this complex, robust wine come from three special blocks of vines grown in the renowned Vine Hill Ranch in Napa Valley’s western benchlands near Oakville. Oakville’s mornings are cool and foggy, but as the sun rises, the fog burns off resulting in warm, dry afternoons. The benchlands offer deep loamy soils and shade from the mountains to protect grapes from extreme heat and sun. These mature vines produce powerful, intense wines in these perfect conditions, with beautiful varietal expression, and a well balanced structure of acidity and tannin.
The long, even 2019 vintage began with ample rainfall, which refreshed the soils in preparation for the season. The spring and summer saw warm, even temperatures without heat waves allowing for an extended, gradual ripening period. Overall, the mild season yielded grapes with excellent color, subtle tannins, and incredible flavor.
