The Benchland Select blends grapes from two vineyards into a classically styled and traditional Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas or ripe black fruits including blackberry, cassis, and boysenberry lift from the glass along with hints of mocha and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is silken with concentrated and intense black fruit flavors supported by elegant, fine grained tannins. The finish is rich and long with hints of dark chocolate and fig. This wine will continue to age gracefully in the bottle for another decade or can be enjoyed now.

This blend of grapes comes from the benchlands of vineyards in Oakville and
Rutherford including Hill Ranch, which surrounds the Rutherford home of Jack and Dolores Cakebread. These sites are considered world class areas for Cabernet Sauvignon because of their distinctive bale loam soils which are well draining yet retain enough water for grapes to ripen perfectly. Additionally, the Western benchland areas where these grapes are grown are slightly cooler than their peers because they receive less hot afternoon sunshine. The result is Cabernet Sauvignon that is beautifully balanced and capable of producing multidimensional wines with exceptional aging potential.
In 2019, the season began with significant rainfall, preparing the soils for an exceptional season. Overall, summertime temperatures were moderate across Napa Valley which allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly before the harvest.
