As Director of Vineyard Operations for Cakebread Cellars, Lise Asimont oversees the Cakebread family’s estate vineyards in Napa and Anderson valleys—more than 580 acres—and works closely with the winery’s grower partners. She identifies new practices and trends in viticulture that will preserve and protect these vineyards for generations to come, and she works in partnership with Winemaker Stephanie Jacobs to help these special growing sites achieve their best expression in the finished wines.
Asimont came to winemaking through a background in science. Both her parents were physicians, and originally she intended to follow in their footsteps. However, a fortuitous meeting with a viticulture professor sparked a passion in winemaking, and her father—a longtime fan of Cakebread wines—encouraged her to pursue her interest. Upon graduation from St. Mary’s College, she entered the Masters program in Environmental Horticulture with a specialization in viticulture at UC Davis.
Asimont’s distinguished career includes long-term positions in grower operations at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery and Geyser Peak Winery. Recently she served as CEO of VinSense, a software company that helps vineyards and perennial agriculture improve quality, sustainability and efficiency in vineyard operations.
