Dolores Cakebread co-founded the winery in 1973 with Jack Cakebread and is executive vice president of culinary and ambience for Cakebread Cellars. In addition to overseeing her famous vegetable garden, Dolores is responsible for co-founding Cakebread Cellars’ “American Harvest Workshop,” an annual four-day seminar where top chefs from North America interact with the winemaker, local farm purveyors and media representatives to discuss wine, food and a healthy lifestyle.
While continuing to own and operate Cakebread’s Garage in Oakland, CA, Dolores and Jack would spend their weekends in Napa Valley tending to the winery. While Jack planted the vineyards, Dolores started her garden of flowers and vegetables that now greets guests at the winery.
Dolores, along with Jack and Culinary Director Brian Streeter, have created The Cakebread Cellars Napa Valley Cookbook: Wine and Recipes to Celebrate Every Season’s Harvest, a collection of more than 120 recipes perfected in the Cakebread kitchen over the past 35 years. Each recipe in the cookbook is paired with a Cakebread Cellars wine making it possible to re-create the delicious and idyllic Napa Valley lifestyle at home. The book is currently available nationwide for an MSRP of $35.00.
Dolores is past president of Les Dames d’Escoffier, San Francisco Chapter, and is a member of the Women Chefs and Restaurateurs, the International Association of Culinary Professionals and the San Francisco Professional Food Society. She’s also a graduate of the University of California Cooperative Master Gardeners Program.
