Cakebread Cellars Reviews: 2007 Syrah Carneros Napa Valley

2007 Syrah
Carneros Napa Valley

Robert Parker

eRobertParker.com rated our 2007 Syrah a 91.
Aug 2009 Robert Parker 91 Drink: 2009 - 2017 $51 (51) A superb Syrah from this well-known Napa Cabernet Sauvignon producer, Cakebread Cellars’ 2007 Syrah offers abundant aromas of blackberries, pepper, and meat, full-bodied flavors, a subtle hint of smoke, and plenty of concentration as well as purity. With everything in balance, this big wine should drink well for 7-8 years.

Connoisseurs Guidepuffpuff Rated 91

"Now we must admit that Napa's cool Carneros district is not the first place that pops into mind when thinking about fine Syrah, but this very deep, fully ripened, long-on-character offering is a solid success on every count. Its mix of sweet berries, spice and rich oak leaves room for an intriguing touch of minerals to peek through, and, in spite of its high ripeness, it shows more sinew and structure than fat. It wants a few years before drinking with the likes of savory braised lamb, but it should continue to grow for a decade."

Ken's Wine Guide

Ken rated this Syrah a 90.
Wine Review:
This opaque and very dark purple colored Syrah from Cakebread opens with a fragrant ripe blackberry bouquet with a hint of spice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, slightly acidic and rich. The flavor profile is a very spicy black raspberry with notes of black pepper and integrated oak. The finish is rather dry and its moderate dusty tannins are sticky and linger for a while. The group though this wine would pair well with a pepper encrusted NY strip steak. Enjoy – Ken

SFCWC

Our 2007 Syrah, Carneros was just awarded a silver medal in this competition. This year's Syrah features a deep, saturated color and classic, cool-toned varietal aromas of ripe dark fruits (cassis, blackberry and boysenberry) augmented by scents of roasted earth, mocha, violets, black licorice and chaparral.  On the full-bodied palate, the wine is awash in deep, mouth-filling, cassis and blackberry compote flavors, which glide into a long, rich finish dominated by dark roasted coffee, briary spice and toasty oak tones.
