Carneros Napa Valley

As nice as Cakebread's 1998 Syrah may be, this
newer version is better yet. Less prone to overt gaminess
than its predecessor, it shows rich oak spice and accents
of clay-like earthiness to its very deep, optimally ripened
blackberry-like fruit and has a fine, fleshy feel on the palate.
So rich and outgoing that it impresses now, it finished with
enough expected Syrah toughness that it will keep for four
to six years.
Connesseurs' Guide gave this wine a score of 92 points.
