Bold, rich, deeply flavored and deeply concentrated Cabernet that has layers of currant, coffee, chocolate, hazelnut and cherry. The finish delivers a flourish of mocha and coffee.

Issue 141, 6-29-02
A brilliant, tightly-knit but promising Cabernet Sauvignon, Cakebread's 1997 Vine Hill Ranch boasts a saturated ruby/purple color, nicely integrated, toasty French oak, and sweet cassis, licorice, and graphite notes. Full-bodied yet elegant, with tremendous length as well as seamlessly assimilated tannin and acidity, this superb 1997 will be at its peak between 2004-2020. Bravo!
The Wine Advocate gave this wine a score of 91 points.
