We're delighted that you are interested in visiting our family owned winery. Each day we offer a variety of tastings and one daily tour to give you an inside look on how we craft our fine wine.
All of our tastings and tours are by appointment. They are conducted in various venues around the winery—in barrel rooms, in the fermentation room and occasionally alongside the vineyard or on a patio when production schedule and weather permits. Please call ahead to make an appointment; weekends and holidays book quickly, up to several days in advance.

Red Wine and Chocolate Tasting - February 11-14, 2010 ONLY!

Six tastings per day offered Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday during the week of Valentine’s Day, every hour, on the hour from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Tasting Fee: $25.00 per person, $15.00 per person for club members
Event Capacity: Maximum of 6 persons per group, 8 people total.
If the thought of great Cakebread Cellars red wines perfectly paired with fine artisanal chocolates gets your imagination (and palate) excited… then please join us for this delightful tasting. Our staff will lead you through a tasting of three current release Cakebread Cellars red wines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Syrah) paired with delicious chocolates handmade in the Napa Valley by Woodhouse Chocolate of St. Helena.
This is a seated tasting held in one of our premium venues and lasts for approximately 40 minutes. All attendees must be over 21 years of age.

Cabernet Sauvignon Vertical Wine Tasting—NEW as of January 4, 2010

If Cabernet Sauvignon is your calling while in the Napa Valley, we’re currently pouring a flight of our 2004, 2005 and 2006 Cabernet Sauvignons—all from the Napa Valley appellation. Tasting a vertical selection is the best way to experience how a wine evolves and develops complexity, and with Cabernet “King” in the Napa Valley, you’ll love this tasting in a distinctive venue here at the winery.

Library Tasting

Daily at 2:30 p.m.
Tasting Fee: $35.00 per person; $20.00 per person for Wine Club members
Event Capacity: Maximum of 6 people per group, 8 people total
Enjoy this exceptional tasting experience that includes four specially selected library wines aged in the Cakebread family’s cellar. This is a seated tasting in one of our premium venues here at the winery. These wines will be tasted in varietal-appropriate crystal stemware for maximum enjoyment. Our wine educator will lead you through this tasting with current tasting notes provided by our winemaker, Julianne Laks.

Group Tasting Featuring Current Release Wines

The Cakebread Cellars staff invites
you to participate in a new program created to enhance
your ability to confidently match wines with food…we
call it the "Wine & Food Pairing Experience!"
We begin with a 30-minute mini-tour
of the winery then seat our guests for a 60-minute interactive
wine food pairing. Our Resident Chefs create four fabulous
recipes each season, using the freshest ingredients from
our very own Cakebread garden. Guests are guided through
four wine-food pairings, with a discussion relative to
the components of the wine and food which create an Epicurean
harmony. This understanding will allow you to fully appreciate
and enjoy the characteristics of our wine.

Sensory Evaluation Experience

When: Friday, Saturday
& Sunday, begins at 10:00 a.m. and concludes at 11:30 a.m.
Event Capacity: Maximum of 6 people per group, 8 people total.
Experience Fee: $30.00 for person; $15.00 per person for Wine Club members.
Our Sensory Evaluation experience is designed to be fun and educational. In 90 minutes you will explore four main components and delve into an investigation of specifically chosen aromatics. We will teach your palate how to identify residual sugar, alcohol, acidity and tannin, and how they create balance in a wine.
As you taste each of the components and learn how to recognize them in wine, this will help you identify “markers” on your palate. With the aromatics portion of the exercise, this session is designed to show your nose how to interpret specific aromatic characteristics found in wine. Between the component and aromatics lessons, you will naturally analyze some terrific wines using the swirl, smell, and sip method. This is a wonderful program to build your wine knowledge.

Retail Sales
We are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to
4:30 p.m., except for New Year's Day, Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving,
Christmas Eve and Christmas.

We are located between Oakville and Rutherford on Highway 29 (St. Helena Highway), on the east side of the road, approximately ¾ of a mile north of Oakville and about ¾ mile south of Rutherford. We do not have a sign on the road; please look for our black mailbox that reads "Cakebread Cellars."
