For years we have delighted in hearing from our friends and customers about how Cakebread Cellars has created special memories of places visited, friends made and romances blossomed. As a result, we thought it only appropriate to capture some of those memories through an annual photography contest for wine loving amateur photographers.

Each year we get dozens of photos from throughout the country, with people doing something a bit out of the ordinary or traveling to exotic places, such as carrying a bottle of Cakebread Cellars on a trip through the high desert.

2007 Photo Contest Winner

Last fall I attended a photography class at a local college. One of the assignments was a depth of field challenge.
I came up with the concept of ‘primus inter pares’, which means – if I remember my Latin correctly – ‘the first of equals’, or ‘leader of his peers’.

When faced with the choice of which cork to select to be in focus, there was one intuitive choice.

A compliment to Cakebread: the picture was not created for the purpose of this contest, but in appreciation of the fine wine I had enjoyed.

2008 PHOTO CONTEST

This is an invitation to enter our Sixteenth Annual Cakebread Cellars Photo Contest. It originated when we started to get postcards and snapshots from our customers telling us when they were enjoying our wine. Some are exotic, some are eccentric, some are close to home, some from far away, but all are great fun. The criteria of the judges seem to evolve each year; so don't feel constrained if you've seen some of the winning pictures from previous years. Good luck!

How to enter:

Send in your photograph and story showing you either wearing a Cakebread Cellars T-shirt, hat or enjoying a bottle of Cakebread Cellars wine. The story text should not be more than 100 words, the more exotic and creative the better.
Note: You must be 21 years of age or older to enter.

The Prize:

Names engraved on the perpetual Photo Contest Trophy and possession of this trophy for one year.

How many winners:

One, to be announced in December 2008. Entry deadline is October 31, 2008.

Criteria of Judges:

All decisions of the judges (the staff at the winery) will be final. We will be looking for the best picture/story combination (the quality of the picture counts a lot). Entries cannot be returned. Winners will need to submit original negative, or jpg on a cd-rom, and all winning photographs become the property of Cakebread Cellars.

Helpful Suggestions from the Judges:

Make sure the label is clearly visible.
The label photographs better on a cloudy day or in the shade.
The label's white color causes it to reflect, it can be challenging.
Exotic locations aren't always the best.
