Just as we constantly strive to perfect the quality of our grapes and wines, we also are intent on improving the experience of those who work at and visit the winery. To that end, Cakebread Cellars embarked last spring on a construction project at the winery.
The goal, says Jack Cakebread, is “to keep Cakebread Cellars a state-of-the-art facility, creating environments in which our employees can do their best work and winery visitors can have the best possible experience.”
The first phase of the construction, called the “East Addition,” includes a barrel aging room, an expanded laboratory, a special tasting area for guests and the replanting of Dolores Cakebread’s famed vegetable gardens. The new laboratory and barrel room will provide ideal work spaces in which winemaker, Julianne Laks, and her staff can make critical decisions regarding blending, barrel-aging and bottling.
“We want our employees to have enough room to be able to focus and do quality work in environments that minimize distractions and stress,” Bruce says, adding jokingly: “Just like happy cows make better cheese, happy winemakers make better wine!”
The project will enable winery guests to better view the winery, its operations and Dolores’ lovely vegetable gardens while sampling Cakebread Cellars wines.
The project should be completed next spring. If you plan to visit us during the next six months, please make an advance appointment so we can provide you with the most enjoyable experience possible.
