While on the road promoting Cakebread Cellars over 20 years ago, Jack Cakebread came up with the idea of developing a program that would bring chefs, artisan food producers, members of the media and other wine and food professionals together. Here, they could learn about the wine industry, explore the relationship between wine and food and celebrate the role that each plays in bringing people around the table.
In 1986, with the help of hotelier Bill Shoaf, the American Harvest Workshop was launched. The event has grown into a forum for furthering the awareness, appreciation and support of the wines, foods, agriculture and cuisines of America.

Each year at the American Harvest Workshop we bring together five top chefs, some of the best artisan food producers, media and consumers to taste, talk, participate in harvest, cook and simply celebrate the bounty of America’s food and wine producers.
The event’s hands-on, intensive schedule explores the art of wine and food through seminars and in-depth tastings, working the grape harvest, an on-site farmers market, farm visits, and planning and creating meals using the products available from food producers at the market.
Since the Workshop’s inception, more than 300 of the nation’s leading chefs, wine and food writers and food purveyors have participated. And the friendships and networks developed through the event contribute to the evolution and growth of the wine, food and cuisines of America.
Dates for the 24th American Harvest Workshop are September 11-15, 2010. Please check back with us to learn about our exciting line up of guest chefs or to participate in this memorable event. |
